Skincare Smoothie
Beauty starts from the inside out, and with skincare that couldn't be more true. One of my favorite (and holistic) ways to achieve a glowing face? By getting all the nutrients needed to support the health and vibrancy of the skin. Of course, topical products have their place, but the best way to support your skin is by making sure it gets all the ingredients the body needs to produce supple, hydrated, elastic, and collage-rich skin - leading to that glow that everyone wants. At the end of the day, what we put inside our bodies (or don't) is what has the biggest impact on our overall health. See below for one of my favorite skincare recipes, all packed into a tasty smoothie for snacking on the go or as a mid-day treat.
Skincare Smoothie Recipe
1/2 Semi-Ripe Banana (pre-biotic)
1/2 Cup Frozen Pineapple (enzymes + vit c)
1/4 Cup Fresh Papaya
2-3 Slices Ginger (digestive support)
2-3 Slices Turmeric (liver support)
1/2 Sliced Carrot (betacarotene)
1/2 Cup Coconut Water (electrolytes)
1 TBL Probiotic Yogurt (probiotic; my fave is Coconut Cult)
2-3 Ice Cubes (for water and to keep it cool)
1/4 Avocado (healthy fat)
Bonus Additions: 1 tsp Tremella Powder, Pearl Powder, Rosehip Powder, or Amla Powder
Skin Care Smoothie Directions Add ingredients to your high-powered blender and blend until smooth! Strawberries also give this drink an added Vitamin-C boost and additional flavor/color.
Why Does This Smoothie Work?
Full of vitamin-c-rich fruits and veggies - this smoothie is packed full of one of the most vital nutrients for skin health - vitamin c. Vitamin s is what helps our skin regenerate and grow, and is used in the production of collagen as well. Probiotics and Prebiotics help give this smoothie an added dose of gut-supportive love, as do the papaya and pineapple with their digestive enzymes. Having a healthy gut supports our body's ability to properly assimilate our nutrients, making it important for overall health. A healthy gut also helps with proper waste disposal, leading to cleaner-looking skin and liver health as well. Turmeric adds a dash of liver support as well, giving this blend a little liver love along with everything else. Brightly colored fruits and veggies are full of powerful antioxidants, which have been linked to healthier skin. Last but not least, I've included a couple of traditional herbal remedies for skin health such as Pearl and Tremella powder (my favorite brand is Root and Bones), Rosehip (for vitamin c), and Amla - a traditional herb high in vitamin c well-known for its support of digestive health.
